If you are surrendering a pet, please follow the directions below:

  1. Appointments are required to surrender your pet. Call our shelter office 410-268-4388 x141 for more information or to make your appointment.
  2. Locate your pet's previous veterinary and vaccination records, if possible, to bring with you.
  3. You will need to show us a current driver’s license or other official identification.
  4. Bring your pet to the SPCA’s Incoming building – the first building on your left as you enter the driveway.  .
  5. All dogs must be on a leash and cats must be in a carrier. If you need a leash or carrier please leave your pet in your car and ask to borrow one from our shelter staff.*
  6. You will need to complete and sign a give-up form and complete a pet profile.
  7. We appreciate and depend on your donation.

Once your animal has been signed in to us:

We will not return the animal if you change your mind and want it back.

We do not release any information regarding the health or placement of your pet once it has been signed in to the SPCA.

When the weather is warm do no leave your pet in your car—call us from your car when you arrive and we will bring one to you.

If you have found a stray animal:

If you have found a stray animal in Anne Arundel County and are unable to locate an owner please call Anne Arundel County Animal Control at 410-222-8900. Stray animals are handled by Anne Arundel County Animal Control’s shelter in Millersville.

A stray animal found in Anne Arundel County that is brought to the SPCA will be signed in on our “stray animal” form.  The animal will be transported by Animal Control to their facility where it has the best chance of being reunited with its owner.

Taking a stray animal you have found directly to Animal Control is less stressful on the lost pet.

Remember -- we are not able to keep strays – they must go to Animal Control in Millersville this is a county law!

Other Counties
If you have found a stray animal outside of Anne Arundel County, please contact the Animal Control that services that county or city to give the animal the best chance of being reunited with its owner.

The SPCA of Anne Arundel County offers a private cremation service to those that would like it. The price of cremation does not include the euthanasia fee. Remains are returned to owner in a carved wooden box.

Spay Neuter Clinic small  

The SPCA Spay and Neuter clinic is open to the public for surgery services Wednesday + Friday. Phone calls are returned Tuesday through Saturday. Please contact your regular veterinarian for wellness exams, vaccinations and dental cleanings. You can schedule an appointment with our clinic by calling 410-268-4388 ext 123 or by emailing  This email address is being protected from spambots. Spay and neuter appointment patients must be dropped off between 7:30 and 8:30 AM and picked up that afternoon between 3:00 and 4:00 PM. All dogs must be on a leash and all cats must be in individual carriers. A current rabies vaccination is required by law. Please bring written proof of rabies vaccination or you can get your rabies vaccine updated for an additional $5.

Pets need to be 16 weeks and older and in good health. Preoperative blood work is recommended and available to all animals if requested, and is required if an animal is 8 years of age or older. This checks organ functions to ensure that your animal is healthy enough to undergo surgery and costs $85. An appointment for blood work must be set up with the SPCA Clinic one week prior to your surgery date so that our veterinarian may contact you with the results. 

Spay and Neuter Services:

  • Dog:  Female (Spay) $100
  • Dog: Male (Neuter) $75
  • Cat: Female (Spay) $60
  • Cat: Male (Neuter) $50

Note: Additional charges apply for surgeries when animals are or in heat or cryptorchid. Females in heat (canine: additional $35, feline: additional $20). Cryptorchid males (canine: additional $50 per testicle, feline: additional $20 per testicle)

The above prices include a brief exam (unless your animal is feral or too fractious to be handled), pain medication, anaesthesia, surgery, an antibiotic injection and a complimentary nail trim. Your animal will also receive take-home pain medication, free of charge, if requested. 

Additional services available at the time of spay and neuter are as follows:

  • Back dewclaw removal - no bone (canine only)  $25 per dewclaw
  • Retained Baby Tooth Extraction (canine only) $10 per tooth

  • Leptospirosis Vaccination (canine) $10
  • FVRCP Vaccination (feline distemper) $10

At this time, no additional services are available to the public. Please see your regular veterinarian for wellness exams, dental cleanings and any other services not listed on our website.

 

Food Bank: The SPCA of Anne Arundel County is pleased to provide pet food for low-income families. The food bank is based out of our shelter in Annapolis, but we will travel to other areas as the need increases.
